Radio licensing and interference issues
One very good reason to have a licensed radio system is “you
have a leg to stand on in the event of interference problems”. Meaning that
your FCC license, provided it is kept up to date, allows you exclusive use of
that frequency under the rules set forth by the license (transmitter power
output, antenna height, etc). As you can guess, if
you have an unlicensed system and someone is interfering with yours, it can be
difficult to resolve.
Dealing
with interference
Interference from another system will mostly likely result
in loss of signal problems. A very outward sign there is interference is that
you will hear unusual or skewed sounds on radios in your system. Mostly likely
those sounds will be most prevalent at the site that is having loss of signal
problems. The sounds will be much different than what you normally hear in a
Micro-Comm scada system.
If you suspect interference, record the sound you hear and
contact our service department. We typically attempt to find the source,
contact the owner and try to resolve the issue before taking it to the FCC for
further action.
